Weekly Obsessions

This Week I’m Obsessed With…

#5: Hamilton – Soundtrack

I love love love this soundtrack. More than I probably should, actually, but alas I am in love with the cast recordings of this historical musical. Follow the founding father, Alexander Hamilton, as he rises up from the poverty of some Carribean island to become a pretty important immigrant, politically speaking. There’s action, intrigue, romance, betrayal – everything you could ever want in a musical, Hamilton has it. Plus, the rapping is on point. Seriously, as somebody who avoids hip hop and rap like the plague on most occasions, I can appreciate the commitment it must have taken to invent not just one or two original hip-hop/rap/pop numbers, but over 40, about Alexander Hamilton and America’s beginnings.

Story time: I only started listening to this soundtrack about a month ago, because “it’s about some American dude, it won’t be that interesting” (Oh, how wrong I was). One night my housemates and I had been hanging out, playing Uno and table tennis, and afterward, I may or may not have had a little breakdown -I blame all the excitement from such riveting games- and started screech-rapping the opening theme at the top of my lungs at my housemates (I apologise for offending your eardrums, guys, haha). Despite that, it was fun, and we stayed up listening to outrageous -00’s pop music until late. Good times.

#4: Piel de Sapo Melon

Oh. My. GOD. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried this melon, but it is honestly (in my opinion, at least) the fruit of the Gods. It’s sometimes known as The Christmas Melon or Santa Clause Melon, which is pretty dang cool. You’re most likely to find this variety of melon in the Summer months in Australia, especially around Christmas (obviously), and it’s definitely worth the price.

This melon has a sweet taste but isn’t sickening in its sweetness. It’s similar in texture to the Honeydew, and the sweetness is roughly the same, though the Sapo, in my opinion, is the superior melon.

#3: Lillie Pilly & Wattleseed Face Wash

So, I actually bought this on accident, thinking it was a moisturizer, but it is one of the best accidental buys I’ve ever had. The brand is Natures Organics, from a range called ‘Pure Australian’, and it’s honestly just so lovely. It’s perfect for those of us with sensitive skin, or at least I’ve found it to be so. It’s soft and gentle, and leaves the skin feeling much the same.

Really, it’s just lovely. 10/10 would recommend. My only problem, really, is that I only bought a 250ml bottle (I don’t even know if they have larger sized bottles, but they totally should because this stuff is beautiful).

#4: The Hoppy Hamper Box

this was a recent find of mine that I got super excited over and subscribed immediately. The Hoppy Hamper is a subscription box for pet owners -specifically, those of us who own little bunny floofs- and love to treat them occasionally. Every month a new box full of treats and toys will be delivered to your door for you and your bunny friend/s to enjoy.

This month’s box, the ‘Aussie’ box, featured all-Australian goodies, which is always wonderful. The sweet potato vine rings were a favourite, and not of the bunny. Gingersnap actually enjoyed them a little too much, considering she ate the entire thing (I’m keeping an eye on her this time, in case that was not good). Cinnabun loves the rolling bell toy, I think it might be her favourite toy I’ve ever given her.

#5: This picture of my lil bunny bun

I just really love it, okay. Don’t judge me. She’s so precious, in an absolutely bratty kind of way *deep sigh*.

The Great Escape

Aahh, the joys of owning a fur baby.

Yesterday (and I had intended to post this yesterday, only I got distracted by… other things) I helped my dad move the bunny’s hutch and run, so that it was on a more grassy patch of lawn.

This went as well as could be expected when moving anything, there were a few bumps but in the end it was placed exactly where it needed to be.

Except, apparently not.

My little Cinnabun is an escape artist, you see. She’ll wait until we have our backs turned and she’ll find the weakest link in the fence (or the easiest place to push through) and she’ll disappear.

Where does she go? Why, into the giant hedge, of course!

Now, this hedge is on a dispicable lean going up a small incline from the neighbours fence to our carport. Into this hill, the dogs -and previous bunnies- have dug out two deep, sturdy burrows.

I, of course, being very much human-shaped and much too large to fit into such a small hole, had to somehow coax the little rascal out of her new favourite den. This happened multiple times, until we found and secured each of the fences insecurities.

It’s easy to see why I got hardly any actual work done.

In any case, it’s always important to make sure your home and yard are secure, so that your fur baby, if they do escape their regular enclosures, is not at risk of getting hit by a car, or eaten by a fox. Really, just make sure they can’t get out of their normal enclosures unless you’re there to supervise.

Side note: Bunny’s are fast, ducks possibly faster.

Be safe now.

Em.

Oops

Haha, so… It’s not that I forgot I was blogging, it’s more that I had a little bit of a ‘down’ moment, for a while there, which prevented me from doing, well, anything.

But, I’m here again! Writing away as though I don’t have several assignments due that are only extended for a week. I’m just really bad at keeping on top of things. It really doesn’t help that my little bunny is throwing clothes hangers around my bedroom. Or that it’s supposed to be Spring, but it’s raining like nobody’s business right now.

Anyway, I did have something I was writing for this blog, but it’s very so-so at the moment, because it involves issues with society and just me ranting about stuff that people get very upset over. I’m not up to posting that, yet. Also, I lost track of it somewhere and it escaped my reign, so after I pull it together perhaps it’ll be post-worthy.

In other news, wow! It’s October already! How the time does like to fly. To be honest, though, 2016 has been ridiculously bad, insofar as global matters are involved. Can you believe Trump is an actual candidate for presidency? America has lost its damn mind. It’s bad enough Australia chose the government it did; Pauline Hanson, Jacqui Lambie, AND Derryn Hinch all in the same parliament? Yeah, beam me up Scotty coz this shit ain’t gonna fly. I’m sure there are others that are equally awful, but those three are the main concern. Especially Pauline. She is abominable, honestly.

Anyway, what do I know, I don’t even follow politics.

I am putting off the work I should be doing, because comparative essays make me gag. The other essay is looking just as bad, but I could just write poetry instead, because that’s always been my saving grace. Literally, it’s usually the only reason I pass these units at all.

That’s all I’ve got for you today. Nothing much has been happening. I did make gingerbread cookies a few weeks ago, but they failed dismally, as did my apple crumble muffins. The bunny is being an adorable nightmare because she can’t go outside again yet (it’s still raining, and I’m not committed enough to getting her out of my room to go out in the rain to put her there). She has already bitten a hole in my shoe and nibbled my bum, because she’s ridiculous like that. She also did this cute tuck and roll thing before she took a nap, which was fuckin’ adorable.

until next time, y’all.
